Healthy Relationships

CHALLENGES DISCUSSING YOUR HIV STATUS?
- With your partner (past or present)
- With your parents
- With your sister or brother
- With a good friend
- With your doctor

Our new Healthy Relationship program can assist you.

Healthy Relationships is a group level program for persons who are HIV+.
You will be provided an opportunity to share common experiences over a period of five or six meetings.
These are interactive meetings with a lot of conversation. They are not counseling sessions, and they are not classes, lectures, or forums, however the meetings will provide guidance with some of the following:

  • Reducing the stress of disclosing your HIV status to family, friends and sex partners.
  • Developing healthier and safer relationships
  • Enhancing your coping skills to help you deal with the stress of living with HIV, to make disclosure decisions and to negotiate safer sex practices
  • Increasing your awareness skills to enhance the ability to read your surroundings
  • Identifying triggers and barriers to enhance the ability to recognize events that can lead you to or prevent you from healthy or unhealthy decisions
  • Enhancing problem-solving ability to identify a problem and possible plans for dealing with it
  • Improving your decision-making ability to choose the plan that will work best for you
  • Developing an action plan that works best for you

Although disclosure is addressed, this is not a disclosure intervention; the skills that are developed are decision-making and problem-solving skills that enable participants to make informed safe decisions about disclosure and safer sex practices.

The facilitator will be a Persons Living With HIV.

Each meeting will build on the previous session. This is important, so if you miss two meetings in a row this may hinder you participate in the full conversations.
